Exhortation 8

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

After I was saved, I had opened a chiropractic office in my hometown of Hereford, TX, that wasn’t going anywhere. A friend dropped by for a visit and I shared my frustration of not knowing what the Holy Spirit wanted for my life.

My friend said he also felt he needed the Holy Spirit’s direction in his life. He had planned to go to a cabin in the country and stay there until he heard from God. That plan sounded good to me since I had just read in the Bible that Jesus had fasted and prayed for 40 days before beginning his ministry. So I put my equipment in my parent’s garage and joined my friend. As soon as he got the utilities turned on, he left. I stayed in the house by myself for 26 days, seeking the Lord and fasting. My parents and siblings thought I was probably suicidal, but all I was doing was looking for direction from God.

I went back to my parent’s house. It seemed that nothing had changed in those 26 days of prayer. Another friend, who is the chiropractor who led me to the Lord, called me a short time later. He told me of a lady chiropractor who needed help in her practice. He said her husband who was a chiropractor had been killed in an accident and she was in poor health and could not keep up the 15 year established practice. He suggested that I look into this opportunity. I told him I was not interested since I felt called into full-time ministry. He called again and this time I told him I would meet the lady chiropractor.

Before seeing the office or meeting the owner, I put a fleece before the Lord. I really did not want to be a chiropractor but rather go into full-time ministry. So I would have a clear sign from the Lord, I asked that the office have a rug on the floor, a trained receptionist, X-ray machine, specific equipment and that I would not have to borrow any money to buy the practice. To my relief the office was better equipped that I imagined. I figured she would want a handsome amount for the practice. To my surprise, she gave me the practice and all I had to do is pay a small equipment rental fee and the rent on the office.

Those 26 days of prayer and fasting had the answer I did not want. The Lord has prospered me in my chiropractic business, which has afforded me the ability to give my testimony around the world, and in the last 16 years to preach large crusades in third world countries. Alleluia to the Lord! He is the Father who truly knows best.
