Father Duane Stenzel was a Catholic priest who traveled around the country in the 1970s speaking in as many churches as would allow him to teach about the blessing of speaking in tongues. He came to Amarillo to speak at the Pentecostal church where I had gotten saved. Fr. Stenzel was a spirit-filled priest who prayed for people from all denominations to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
I had seen him in action, so when two nuns came to my office for their adjustments the next morning, I invited them to the Pentecostal church where he was going to be that evening. The sisters told me that they could not go because the meeting was going to be in a Protestant church. I kidded them that if they did not come, I’d give them a whipping on their next visit. Much to my surprise, they showed up at the meeting that night and both were filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues.
A short time later, the religious sisters invited me to speak at the convent’s prayer meeting. That evening 15 more nuns received their gift of tongues.
Fr. Stenzel came to our regional convention in Amarillo in 1977. He took the altar call and many people were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. He was a very popular FGBMFI convention speaker. Every where he went, he always made it a point to invite the local Catholic leadership and religious personnel to his meetings.
I was greatly blessed by seeing this man of God in action bringing real unity in the Body of Christ by his message on the importance of praying in tongues to be an effective worker in building the Lord’s church. He would lay hands on all believers regardless of denomination so that they could experience the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
So today, reconnect with the Holy Spirit and pray in tongues. Remember that the special blessing of praying in tongues is that your prayers are attaching themselves to Jesus’ perfect intercessory prayers. So go pray some more in tongues.
