A Karate Kid

About 10 years ago my friend Mike Quintana from Fresno, California, invited me to speak on prayer at a Men’s Advance. While on the plane, I asked the Holy Spirit how I was to pray for the men who came forward for prayer. The Lord brought to my mind a memory from 25 years prior when Dr. Jack Herd, a chiropractor and International Director from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, had invited me to speak at his chapter meeting and to travel with him to a regional convention in Washington, DC. Dr Jack took me to his church after the meeting because there was going to be a special speaker, a pastor of a church situated in the middle of Harlem, New York.

This man of God would call forward people who had specific healing or deliverance needs, and once the people came forward, he would cluster the people in groups according to their complaint or need. He would then lay hands on one person in the front of the group and the whole group would be slain in the spirit. People would fall on top of each other and most were healed. The church revival continued the following night but the speaker could not come back because of the heavy fog covering the region. My friend and his pastor asked me to take the speaker’s place. I did and I felt the same anointing that the Harlem pastor had. I prayed for people in groups and people were healed and delivered in groups as they were slain in the Spirit. I believe that if we yield ourselves and allow our actions to be controlled by the Holy Spirit, He can do great things through us.

In Fresno I prayed for the men in groups at all the altar calls. The men were hungry to be used by God. I would touch the man in the front of the group and the whole group would be slain in the Holy Spirit. At the last meeting, I noticed an eager young man who always came to every altar call that weekend. He had recently been released from prison and was now saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. As this would be the final group wanting prayer, I asked them to get closed together. Instead of laying hands on the young man who was in front, I raised my leg and pushed the young man’s chest with my cowboy boot. I had to jump up since he was a taller than me. The whole group was slain in the Spirit and was greatly blessed. Since then I am known as the Karate Kid from Texas.

The Holy Spirit is the one who leads and directs. At times He moves us to do things differently than the norm so that people can be excited about what Jesus has done for them as personal savior. Take that, Devil!
